A second source indicates her name was Lou Hette Brown. A check of the 1880 census revealed a large number of possible matches so until more information is uncovered no definitive answer can be arrived at.
Dr. Richard Selcer in his book," Hells Half Acre", indicates that Hettie's maiden name was Bimbo, Marie Hettie Bimbo. He further states that after Luke's death she married luke's brother John and with her four kids moved to Arizona.
Dr. Selcer adds that Hettie died in 1940 in Tombstone, AZ.
This information is based on an interview Selcer had with Ruby Schmidt on July 27, 1989 which was based on a conversation Ruby had with Luke Short III.
Tombstone City officials were contacted and they failed to find a burial record for Hettie Short.
After more searching it now appears that the information given to Dr. Selcer by Ruby Schmidt that was given to her by Luke Short III was all a fabrication. The man posing as Luke Short III was a fraud. |
