In December 1887, when Luke cashed out the gambling concession for the last time and cut all ties to the White Elephant he hooked up with Vic Foster.

In 1888 they opened the Palais Royal Saloon located at 406 Main Street, Fort Worth. Others have referred to it as the Palace Royal Gambling Hall. Regardless, it was Luke's last harrah.

Where were Luke's buddies? Bat Masterson was working for Ed Chase in Denver. Doc Holliday was three years dead and Wyatt was living in San Diego.

Luke eventually closed his place do to pressure from Churches and the energetic ladies of the city. An ordinance against gambling was being enforced and the ladies saw to it that neither the police or city officials were paid to allow gambling to continue.
